The Free Lands stretch across the South of the land from the border control point at Gate to the Western Drop. Here the law of the Few is not recognised and most of the land is governed by elected bodies or fair-minded individuals. As the name suggests The Free Lands tend to be much more liberal than the territories controlled by the Few and especially the Cult and here men are free to follow their own paths – some can even read!

The main population centre in the Free Lands is Rainbow City. This eclectic, friendly and slightly bizarre conurbation has grown up organically around the ruins of an ancient seaside city.
